Think it’s time to settle down after six kids

August 26, 2025

Dear Pastor,

I am a 55-year-old man and I have six children with five different mothers. I have never got married.

I did not see the need to get married. I have four boys and two girls. Farming is what I love, so I was able to take care of my children. Three of the women who worked for me got pregnant by me. They did not call my name, but I knew that the children were mine, so I own them. I gave the women money to send them to school. These women took care of me too. I never disrespected them. I gave them what their men were not able to give them.

I have built a nice four-bedroom house. My two daughters are living in the United States of America (USA). Whenever they come to Jamaica, they stay here with me. I have my daughters' names in my bank account, but not the boys. One of my daughters has a child and I am crazy over this child. My daughters want me to stop working and join them in the USA. I do not believe that at my age, I should leave my country and start all over in another man's country.

I would love to settle down and the mother of one my sons is willing to marry me. This son does not carry my name, but he is my son. His mother and I still do bed works together occasionally. I don't know how my other children will feel about it if I should get married to this woman, so I am asking you for your advice.

A.B.

Dear A.B.,

I suggest that you talk to all your children and let them know that you have come to the age that you feel you should get married.

You should also talk to them about whom you would like to marry. They will tell you the truth and I don't see them objecting to the woman you love. They know that you were a wild man. You don't have to tell them that two of the children's names are on your account. But if you are still fooling around, you should quit. Every man needs a good woman by his side and every woman needs a good man.

So what I am trying to say is that at your age now, do something about your life, and do so soon.
