People's National Party (PNP) candidate for Manchester Southern, Peter Bunting, says he is unfazed by critics who claim he is seeking refuge in the constituency after being rejected in Manchester Central during the 2020 general election.

Instead, he expressed confidence in securing victory, pointing to what he describes as a noticeable increase in PNP supporters turning out to vote today.

"I grew up on a farm and riding horses. My father would say, sometimes you fall off, but you climb right back up on the saddle. And other people might say the stone that the builder refused becomes the chief cornerstone in another constituency," he said.

The former national security minister was defeated by newcomer Rhoda Moy Crawford in the last general election by over 1,500 votes.

He is now up against businessman Ian Ives in the neighbouring constituency.

"The ground is very encouraging," he told The Star after greeting party supporters at the Porus Infant School earlier today.
