With family by her side, Nekeisha Burchell votes at childhood school in St James Southern
For St James home-grown girl Nekeisha Burchell, her electoral debut came with the added bonus of familial support, as she was today surrounded by loved ones while making her bid to go to Gordon House.
Flanked by her parents and siblings, the People's National Party (PNP) candidate for St James Southern expressed gratitude for the show of support.
"[I'm] feeling almost nostalgic to be voting at the primary school that I went to, just down the road from my house, with my parents, my sister, my two brothers, a host of cousins. My entire family is rallying around me, but most importantly, the entire Garlands is rallying around me."
Her father, Pastor Egbert Burchell, became emotional at the thought of seeing his daughter get her shot at a parliamentary seat.
"I am rejoicing, I live to see this day. It is not a stranger, but blood and the Bible declares that you will not see your seed go begging bread," he said through tears.
The PNP candidate noted that having her father's support is even more meaningful, as he recently suffered a stroke.
Burchell is attempting to unseat the incumbent Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Member of Parliament and former Mayor of Montego Bay, Homer Davis.
