LA Lewis 'can't vote' but supports the PNP
Maroon emperor, Horace 'LA' Lewis, says that although he will not be dipping his finger in ink for today's general election, he is rallying support behind the People's National Party (PNP).
"I am the Maroon emperor for the Nyankopong Maroon but I will be supporting the PNP government for this term. As an emperor underneath royal oath I can't vote ... same as how King Charles [in England] can't vote ... but we have the rights to support the party we want to," Lewis said.
According to Lewis, he will be spending the remainder of the day travelling to various sections of the island to see if there is "a smooth and fair election process".
"Any government win I will be there supporting them, but I think it is time for a change. At the end of the day the economy going down big time and everything a raise. Poor people a lose their land and it hard to get land to buy. Today, mi a guh deh all over the place from Clarendon to Spanish Town to Kingston to just ensure seh everything where this election is concerned run smooth," he said.
He told THE STAR that later this evening, he will not only be congratulating the leader of the winning party but will be offering wise words of advice.
"Just take care of the people more and ensure that education is free. Ensure that people who are police, doctors, lawyers and civilians and so on are well paid. This way the economy will move faster. While raising pay is good, if the businesses are not doing good dat nah go make any sense. Workers gonna get lay off like crazy and then we are going to be forced to use AI. We want the raise of pay but improve the economy first so we can pay our workers well," Lewis said.
Last year, Lewis committed more than $2 million to the PNP during the staging of its 86th annual conference on Sunday, September 15.
