DNA result stuns mom - Man now questions second pregnancy after test turns up negative

For eight months, Brad* believed he was a father. He rocked baby Aaliyah* to sleep over video calls, sent money every payday to her mother, and promised his mother she'd soon hold her first grandchild.

But his dream has unravelled as a DNA test has revealed that he isn't Aaliyah's biological father.

Compounding matters, his partner is expecting another baby, which he just learnt about, causing him to question that child's paternity as well.

"Mi kinda depressed, to be honest with you," he told THE WEEKEND STAR after receiving the results of the DNA test undertaken by at Polygenics Consulting.

Brad, 29, and his partner Zoey*, 23, have had a rocky, on-and-off relationship. During one of their breaks, in October 2023, Zoey had a fling and found out she was pregnant three months later. When she told Brad he was the father, he was sceptical.

"Mi just work wid fi her flow and send money fi the baby," he said. "Even when mi couldn't see dem, mi send diaper money, clothes, everything. But deep down, mi did have questions."

A couple of weeks ago, this publication featured Brad's emotional journey as he wrestled with suspicion and tried to stay committed, even after learning Zoey had been unfaithful. At the time, she had just revealed her pregnancy, and Brad, though heartbroken, chose to remain in the child's life. But he still expressed a desire to know for certain. Zoey insisted that he was the only man she had slept with when she conceived and expressed confidence the child was his. Brad missed Aaliyah's birth because he was working in another parish, and his name wasn't added to the birth certificate, a decision he said he'd rectify once he had proof of paternity.

Despite living in different parishes, Brad showed up in the ways he could. But as the months passed, Zoey became distant.

"Before the test, mi nuh see her for three, four months," he said. "Every time mi try link up, is one bag of excuse."

It wasn't until they finally met to do the DNA test that Brad noticed something else - Zoey was pregnant again, though she initially denied it. Then, the DNA results came back on Aaliyah - Brad was not the father. For Zoey, the results were just as jarring.

"I don't know what to say. I was 100 per cent sure," she said softly. "Even when him ask mi if mi a fret mi seh no, cause mi never think it coulda negative."

She admitted to being with someone else briefly in October 2023, calling it "a one-time thing", but insisted she got pregnant months later, in January, when she and Brad were back together.

"The other man, mi stop deal wid him same month," she said. "Mi nuh even know where him deh now. Mi sure when mi get pregnant, a Brad alone mi did deh wid." Zoey said she found out she was expecting Aaliyah during an ultrasound appointment, but couldn't say exactly how far along she was. She now faces an uncertain future, as Brad may no longer be by her side.

"Mi feel a way," she admitted. "Cause mi nuh know what to do or who fi turn to."

Brad had previously said that he wouldn't completely walk away from Aaliyah even if she wasn't biologically his. But the discovery of the secretive second pregnancy has shifted everything.

"She haffi try and find di real fada," he said. "Mi ask back fi all mi money weh mi spend. She ask fi time, and mi give her dat." His mother, who had been waiting excitedly for her first grandchild, was devastated at the news.

"When mi tell her, she break down," Brad told THE WEEKEND STAR. "She did love dat baby already."

Zoey, now visibly pregnant, insists this second child is Brad's.

"Mi sure it his," she said. "Mi will do another DNA test if mi haffi."
