90’s dancehall influence heavy on ‘Ms Dior’
Infused with a 90's dancehall rhythm with a modern twist, Agent Sasco has teamed up with Grammy Award-winning songwriter Nordia Mothersille for Ms Dior.
The song has created quite a buzz online with fans who are comparing the NotNice-produced track to the Terror Fabulous-Nadine Sutherland hit - Action.
"People are saying it give dem like dat 90's dancehall vibe - which is great - and I've also been getting a lot of positive comments about my voice," said Mothersille.
"Overall a rough dancehall voice with a person who deejays and someone who sings normally go well together as proven in whole heap a di dancehall hits from back den. It's a style that just works. So I feel like once Sasco heard the chorus and di riddim, him know wah fi put pon it fi mek it work. It's a perfect fit for me," Mothersille told THE STAR. She said that the song's title was created by NotNice.
"I guess he just thought of that name based on what I was saying in the chorus when I said, ' Don't listen to rumours when you buy me that Dior,'" speaking of the luxurious French brand. NotNice said that in addition to the term Dior being mentioned as a catchy, appealing part of that chorus, he knew it could have a bigger pop.
"First thing weh did come to mind was 'Rumours' because in the song she also said she wanted to clear up the rumours the man was hearing. But rumours just have a likkle cliche thing to it. And mi deh deh a try figure it out till mi seh 'Dior' and Nordia guh Ms Honda (her previous song), suh mi guh Ms Dior and it just blend right back in wid her previous song," said NotNice.
The Billboard-charting producer said the blended sound with the 90's dancehall fusion was intentional as he loves that sound even over than the modern stuff.
"It also resonates more internationally, people like dah sound deh more," he opined, adding that the sound "always works for me". He previously secured major hits such as Spice's So Mi Like It and Vybz Kartel's Bend Like Banana.
Agent Sasco commended Mothersille for her exceptional talent, and said he first heard her on NotNice's Kyng Midas album on the song titled Sorry.
"I thought her sound and delivery were impressive so when NotNice reached out to me to do something for her upcoming project, it didn't take any convincing," Agent Sasco told THE STAR.
"We had a great reasoning and listened to a few tracks and we decided that I would drop some verses on Ms Dior and another song. Everything flowed seamlessly, it was a great session. I think her potential is limitless and I'm happy the song is allowing people to hear that."
Mothersille noted that the chorus was already there and Agent Sasco heard the beat and started freestyling his verse.
"I felt great about the partnership because this is not something I knew was gonna happen, because these are all artistes that you look up to and a sing dem song from yuh a pickney. Suh it's a surreal feeling when yuh can come together and work with the stars that you idolised," she stated.
Mothersille said she hopes everyone gets the underlining message of the song.
"You know how sometimes people create this narrative as if it's something wrong for a female to want a man who does help dem in some way. Yuh can like a person and at the same time want them to help you [financially] especially if the person is doing better [in life] than you. And having a woman that you see struggling and yuh allow to struggle - yuh couldn't like har," she explained, adding that she is simply saying to ladies, "There's nothing wrong in wanting something from a man; it doesn't mean seh yuh don't like him."
Mothersille said that the song has the potential to hit the international spaces, with more local support.
