Singing Melody hits right chords in tourism businesses

Timeless reggae singer Singing Melody has ventured into a new world of businesses in an expression of his love and contribution towards tourism in Jamaica.

The Want You Back singer said that since starting his villa - Villa Mimosa JA, located in St Ann - and yacht rental service - Mimosa Yacht Charter three years ago, his most fulfilling accomplishment is employing some of his fellow Jamaicans.

"Music has always been a part of the backbone and it will never leave, it's my life. But tourism is always something that I like, but I never had the money nor the financial education to go into it. I was talking to my friends and they asked, why not get a piece of land on the north coast? And that's what I did. I initially wanted it to be a family house but then my wife and I saw the opportunity to turn it into a business," Singing Melody told THE STAR.

"So far, we have employed 12 persons as butlers, chefs and housekeepers and whenever we have events, we employ more. I also work alongside my staff. There's no 'boss' here; no one is overworked and we are like a family," he added.

The singer-turned-entrepreneur, who just released a new cover track titled, Fragile, is hoping to balance both his musical and business careers as he attempts to expand his services.

"I am currently in talks with a developer who is giving me some ideas on other [business] stuff I could do, so there is definitely room for growth. And in Jamaica, why not? [It is] the most beautiful island in the world where you can go and feel at home. So I'd definitely love to establish more properties here and do more things, own more luxury yachts that do different types of service. So I'm looking forward to more business ventures," he said.

The five-star luxury villa, that sits on an oceanic view of the north coast, consists of several amenities such as a recording studio, a gym and a basketball court. The 55-foot yacht, which is docked in Montego Bay, St James, was named the 'Best of 2022' and 'Best of 2023' in the GetMyBoat Awards. GetMyBoat is the world's largest boat rental and water experience marketplace.

Despite the singer's newfound passion in business, he noted that he is still touring with his singing group LUST (which also consists of Lukie D, Tony Curtis and Thriller U). The group is booked to perform at Valentine's Day-themed shows in Grand Cayman and North Carolina in February, followed by their European tour in the summer.

Singing Melody is slated to perform as a solo act for his upcoming international shows in Atlanta and London, following his recent performance in Bermuda a week ago.
