First-time voter Dadrea Spencer says she could not miss today's opportunity to participate in the democratic process and let her voice be heard.

Spencer was the youngest person to have shown up to vote at Independence City Primary School in St Catherine South Eastern.

The 24-year-old said she was casting her ballot because she wants to see a continuation of the steady management of the Jamaican economy.

According to Spencer, many of her friends in her age group also signalled that they would be making their mark today.

The Independence City division of St Catherine South East has traditionally shown stronger support for the Jamaica Labour Party.

The former Member of Parliament for the constituency, Robert 'Big Rob' Miller, is seeking a second term in Parliament, but first, he must stave off the challenge of the People's National Party's Dr Alfred Dawes. Kaycian Radcliffe of the Jamaica Progressive Party is also contesting the polls.

Miller polled 6,844 votes in 2020 to unseat the then-incumbent Colin Fagan of the PNP.

Fagan received only 5,720 votes.
