Dancehall megastar Dexta Daps has sanctified some of his raunchiest supporters through his powerful dancehall/cultural single, God Got Me, which was released just over a week ago.

Pouring out a side of him which some fans grew to love and admire, but leaving others stunned, the singer shared what inspired this new single.

" God Got Me captures my personal journey. It highlights the importance of relying on faith during challenging times. It's relatable, and I'm happy to see how it resonates in so many people," Dexta Daps told THE WEEKEND STAR.

With every note hitting a positive word of encouragement or giving thanks for his blessings, Dexta Daps noted that "the [song's] core message centres on hope and resilience" as he aims to inspire listeners to have faith, reminding them that they're never alone in their experiences.

With his catalogue known to be mostly centred around seductively explicit 'female anthems', there were mixed reactions towards the single, with most supporters sharing their testimonies and congratulating the artiste on delivering such a "conscious song of praise". However, others were questioning the artiste's "worthiness" in constructing and spreading a message of faith.

"There will always be someone who doesn't like what you're doing. But you can't let that stop you. I believe that music should authentically represent our identities, and everyone should be free to share their faith, irrespective of their background. My focus remains on my unique path," Dexta Daps shared.

However, he said that despite the diverse views, he does not believe he's been placed "in a box" by consumers of his music because he has been creatively expressing his versatility for years.

"You can say I have more songs for the ladies, however, that's due to the demand. True Dexta Daps fans know that I've always explored a variety of subjects. It's vital for artistes to showcase the full spectrum of their experiences," he said.

THE WEEKEND STAR asked Dexta Daps if he believes some music lovers tend to turn positivity into something negative due to the amount of negative messages they consume from artistes over the years. He replied that "that applies to any form of entertainment".

"It largely depends on how people receive and interpret it. Some tend to focus on what they deem negative, often influenced by their current situation, or the lens through which they view the world. I choose not to dwell on that. Instead, I'm laser-focused on creating great music that resonates with my soul and speaks to those who appreciate it. I'm forever grateful for both the positives and the negatives -- it means they are listening," he smiled.

God Got Me's visuals have racked up approximately two million views since its release on March 23. This project is one of several to come that will be featured on Dexta Daps' own recording label - Dexta Daps Music Group - on his newly produced rhythm titled 'First Up'.

The charismatic artiste shared that in addition to the faith that was instilled in him from a tender age by his mother, his personal life has taught him enough to know when to shut out the noise and just be grateful to a higher supreme power.

"Growing up in a Christian family profoundly influenced my values. My mother taught me the importance of faith and perseverance, urging me to stay grounded while pursuing my musical passion," he said, quickly noting that "my faith and the wisdom from my elders have significantly shaped my life; [therefore] God Got Me represents my personal journey and dedication. It was not inspired by any one person," he reiterated.

Dexta revealed that upon leaving the studio after recording the single, he was involved in an accident; but what could've been an unfortunate twist of events turned out to be another "sign" from God that he will always show up at the right moment in time.

"The accident was disconcerting. It reinforced the importance of knowing that no matter what, God's got me covered during challenging times, and remaining steadfast in my beliefs," he reasoned. The artiste encouraged all his supporters to "remain faithful and stay authentic to yourselves".

"Trust in God's plan and concentrate on your own path, regardless of the noise around you."
