ST ANN:
Mount Pleasant Football Academy, the 2022-23 Jamaica Premier League champions have risen seven points to be ranked the number one club team in the Caribbean, following the latest Concacaf rankings, released on Saturday. Mount Pleasant, who were ranked behind Cibao FC of the Dominican Republicl have now amassed 1,074 points.
The shift comes about following the club's winning run in the ongoing Concacaf Caribbean Cup, which saw them ending top of group 'A' with maximum 12 points. Mount Pleasant FA are also the only team in the 2025 competition yet to concede a goal.
"When my wife Amanda and I embarked on this journey our number one objective was to put Jamaica at the forefront of Caribbean football again," shared club owner Peter Gould. "We have achieved so much during a short time, but this is only the beginning.
"I want to highlight our coaching staff led by Theodore Whitmore and Davion Ferguson, they have worked tirelessly to get this team to this stage and their vision align perfectly with ours. Thanks to the players who were determined to make up for the early exit in this competition last year," he said.
The St Ann club's Sporting Director, Paul Christie, says this is a culmination of sacrifice and hard work.
"This is not luck, this is the result of hard work and dedication from everyone involved here at Mount Pleasant FA. We had to make some tough decisions and we made some mistakes along the way, but we learned and this achievement makes it all worth it."
Mount Pleasant FA will next be in action in the Caribbean Cup on October 22, when they play away to Defence Force FC of Trinidad & Tobago at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Trinidad. The return leg is set for October 29 at the National Stadium.
