Update | Buju Banton fires back, says Vaz 'unaware' of events surrounding stolen relief supplies
Reggae star Buju Banton has fired back at Transport Minister Daryl Vaz, insisting that his account of how relief supplies were handled at the Norman Manley International Airport is "unaware" of the real situation.
In a post shared to his Instagram, Buju Banton said that the goods sent for Hurricane Melissa victims were not taken straight from the plane to trucks, as Vaz had claimed, but were moved to "an area we had no sight of" and kept there for hours.
"Seals were broken and things were taken," he said, stressing that he had no reason to "create mischief nor make up stories."
The entertainer accused the minister of trying to "make this political" and said that the relief flight also carried packages for People's National Party's Member of Parliaments, donated by Florida-based commissioners and donors.
"This is about Jamaica, not about PNP or JLP as we are all suffering," Buju wrote.
Calling the system "broken," the Til Shiloh artiste said many others had faced similar issues at customs. "The common thread continues to be a lack of accountability and trying to shame and blame the person who speaks out," he added.
Buju said he was disappointed by Vaz's response but "not surprised."
