Kelly Upsetter keeps street dance culture alive
What began as a dream by the late Ken Crooks, better known as Fada Ken of Ken's Wildflower fame, is still blazing in Bayside, Portmore - and the torch-bearer is none other than dancehall's Sunshine City Queen, Kelly Upsetter.
Once the heartbeat of Portmore's nightlife, the Portmore Street Dance has been kept alive through Kelly's passion for the culture.
Known for her bold energy and unshakable love for '90s-style dancehall, Kelly Upsetter has transformed the event into a celebration of Jamaican street dance that bridges the gap between generations. She is on a mission to make sure Portmore's young partygoers get a taste of the same raw energy, infectious rhythms, and community spirit that shaped the city's nightlife legends.
The recently staged Independence Street Dance at Ken's Wildflower Parking Lot was proof that the vibes are still intact. Veteran selector Bumpy Cash and crowd-puller Boom Boom aka World Boom turned up the heat, with patrons from near and far bringing their best moves and boldest fashion to the dance floor.
Here are the highlights.
