Reid double secures points for Arnett
A double strike from veteran Fabian Reid powered Arnett Gardens to a 2-0 Jamaica Premier League win over archrivals Tivoli Gardens FC in the 'Clash of the Gardens' football match at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex on Sunday.
Reid netted in the 41st and 76th minutes to give the Philip Williams-coached team three valuable points, which pushed them into the top six and Tivoli out of the playoff spots.
Arnett, who were seventh in the table coming into the game, climbed one place to sixth on 29 points, while Tivoli slipped to seventh on 28 points.
The top-of-the-table clash between league leaders Montego Bay United and Racing United ended 1-1 at Ferdi Neita Park.
The visiting MoBay United struck first through a spectacular Dwight Merrick long-range strike.
However, moments later Nickyle Ellis was brought down in the box and Tajay Grant converted the penalty to secure a point.
MoBay now lead with 46 points, seven clear of Racing and Portmore United. The latter defeated Harbour View 2-1 to join Racing on 39 points.
Racing's head coach Anthony Patrick said an injury to midfield ace Ellis was a big hindrance.
"When we realised Nikyle was in some pain, we had some problems. He fought hard going through those pains but we had to pull him and in the latter part MoBay took control. But we were resilient and got a point and that was very important," he said.
MoBay's coach Xavier Gilbert said they deserved a win.
"We had more good goalscoring opportunities than they did but such is the nature of the game," he contended.
At Harbour View Mini Stadium, Peter McGregor's 68th-minute strike gave Portmore all three points.
Javier Brown put Portmore in front after 29 minutes, before Trayvone Reid tied the game with a 58th-minute goal for Harbour View.
Meanwhile, Waterhouse continued their steady climb up the table, beating Dunbeholden 2-1 at Dunbeholden for a fourth successive win.
Atapharoy Bygrave gave the hosts a 35th-minute lead, but strikes from Javane Bryan (54th) and Panamanian Roberto Avila Quiros in the 57th carried Waterhouse to victory.
Waterhouse are now fifth on 30 points. Dunbeholden are 10th with 25 points.
In other games, Treasure Beach held Mount Pleasant to a goalless draw, while Molynes United and Chapelton played out a similar result.
