Vauxhall ready to go ‘toe-to-toe’ with JC
Kyle Butler, head coach for Vauxhall High School said his players are ready to go "toe-to-toe" with Jamaica College (JC) when they meet today in Zone C action of the ISSA/WATA Manning Cup competition.
Vauxhall will play host to JC, the winningest school in the competition, at the school's campus, with kick off set for 3:30 p.m.
"These boys have been facing challenges their whole life," Butler said. "They're from inner city areas, they're not rich and they don't have things easy at home.
"So facing challenges is what they do on a daily basis and our team is no different, we face challenges every day."
Vauxhall are coming off a close 2-1 defeat to St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) on Tuesday, following a strong start where they had won their first five games.
PROUD OF TEAM
Butler said the defeat to STATHS will not derail their ambitions and he is proud to have seen his team to go "toe-to-toe" with one of the Manning Cup's top teams.
He is hoping for a similar fight against JC.
"A simple loss is not a defeat for us. We'll bounce back and get our mentality strong, we'll get our game plan strong, and we'll come back again.
"I still think that we're definitely in the top six teams at least in the Manning Cup. STATHS and Jamaica College are probably the best teams in the league and we went toe-to-toe with them until the last second," he said.
JC will be looking to maintain their hold on Zone C as they currently lead with 16 points, tied with STATHS. However, the boys from Old Hope Road hold the advantage with a better goal difference.
