The 2025 Xpress Sports/Kingston and St Andrew Business House football competition kicked off in style on Saturday at the Constant Spring Football Field, with two action-packed games.

In the feature Division One clash, defending champions National Housing Trust (NHT) started their title defence with a convincing 2-0 victory over Kingston Wharves Limited.

The champions struggled to break down a resilient Kingston Wharves team, but got the breakthrough in the 70th minute, thanks to Nicholas Smith's own goal.

Orane Ferguson then sealed the three points for NHT with a strike four minutes from the end.

In the opening game, Division Two teams Scotiabank and Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited played to an exciting 1-1 draw.

Kingston Freeport jumped into an early lead through Steve McCooty's strike after three minutes.

However, Scotiabank would respond midway the first half, when Herbic Garriques scored to level the game.

In the dress parade which preceded the matches, 17 teams participated, from which National Commercial Bank (NCB) emerged winners. Second place went to Kingston Freeport and third to Wisynco.

Meanwhile, at the launch of the competitions recently, it was announced that Xpress Sports, through its Soccer Xpress brand, will sponsor the league to the tune of $8.4 million for three years.

The sponsorship will include teams getting discounts on gear and balls, while the association will receive financial support to assist with expenses.

Matthew Christie, Soccer Xpress CEO, said the chance to sponsor business house football was too big an opportunity to pass, and that their intention is to help the league grow and develop.

"Usually in the sporting dynamic in Jamaica, there is not much opportunity to sponsor. But this year we decided to pull out all the stops and put together a decent sponsorship, and when this opportunity presented itself we grabbed it with both hands," he said.

"We think it is an opportunity to grow with the business house association. And we are hoping to not just make it grow for the first three years, but long term," Christie commented.

He pointed out that the league has grown from 19 to 21 teams.

"We at Soccer Xpress want to be a part of that growth. We are happy to be here, and we look forward to being a part of the association going forward."

President of the Kingston and St Andrew Business House Football Association (KSABFA), Wayne Shaw, said it is a big boost having Soccer Xpress on board.

"Matthew likes what he sees of business house over the years. So he has decided to come on board with a good sponsorship deal," Shaw expressed.

"Our sponsorship for the three years is $8.4 million. It's a good deal, and I want to thank Matthew and the Xpress family for coming on board with us," he said.

The RJR/GLEANER team will open their season this Saturday at the Barbican playing field. In other matches, Wisynco play Seprod at Meadowbrook High School, McKay Security take on Jamaica Customs at Alpha Institute, and Scotiabank oppose Honey Bun at Winchester Park.

On Sunday, Sagicor play Kingston Freeport at Barbican, ATL Group face PriceSmart at National Water Commission playing field, and International Ingredients take on Arc Manufacturing at Alpha Institute.

In the lone game on Monday, JUTC play IBEX at Seaview playing field. All games start at 4 p.m.
