Policeman shot and killed
A policeman is now dead and his wife under police guard at hospital following a bone-chilling incident at their home in Sommerset, Manchester, yesterday.
The cop was reportedly shot several times after a dispute with his wife allegedly escalated. It is alleged that the cop, who has been identified as Damien Blair, was shot by his wife using his own firearm. According to police reports, at approximately 6:40 p.m., Blair and his wife were having an argument when the matter escalated, resulting in the lawman being shot several times with his service pistol. Neighbours heard the explosions and subsequently alerted the police. The wife was found in a pool of blood, with what appeared to be stab wounds. Both Blair and his wife were rushed to the hospital where Blair was pronounced dead. The wife remains in hospital in serious condition.
Blair was formerly of the patrol division at the Mandeville Police Station. One of his colleagues said that he was assigned to the station for about 25 years.
"This is the third police we have lost in the past two or three years from one department. It is so sad that this had to be the end ... I wish this wasn't the end," another colleague said.
